Food Pantry Opening November 1, 2013

We had a special day at the pantry today. The rain held off and everyone enjoyed themselves. 18 volunteers worked hard providing food for 67 families. A total of 200 people received food from our pantry today. Five of these families came for the first time today.  The fact that we can help this many people is truly something to celebrate.

October Happenings…

PGO News!!

• You may have noticed that we have made an attempt with two new signs (SLOW, Pedestrians Ahead) to slow the traffic down near the crossing area from the parking lot over to the Thrift Spot. Please help us avoid danger by NOT allowing your children to cross the street alone. Cars are often traveling extremely fast and will not be able to stop.
• In “Jenna’s Room” we have placed a Prayer Box for your use. We have received a few prayers so far that we will be praying over each Tuesday morning at 7:30 a.m. here at the Thrift Spot. You are always welcome to join us for coffee and prayer at this time.
• We invite all of our customers (children and adults) to wear your “friendly” Halloween costumes to the spot on October 26. When else do you get to act like a kid? We hope you will join the Spot staff in dressing up.  Adults will receive a prize for dressing up. See the register people for your prize.
• As always you can follow the happenings of Proclaiming Grace Outreach on Facebook or by following our blog at

Thank you for your part in making our mission a successful one!

Thrift Spot Saturdays

What a wonderful Saturday we had visiting and talking with our Thrift Spot customers. We are seeing lots of new faces as well as the friendly familiar faces of those who come each week. Next Saturday, October 12, we are pleased to have The Living Word Church of God with us. They will provide hotdogs, drinks, and baked goods. They are raising funds for a church building. Come on out and help support this wonderful cause!

Food Pantry Opening

October 4, 2013

Hi everyone,

The number of folks coming to receive food from our pantry continues to be up. We have had some new folks with special needs. Today, 11 volunteers provided food for 65 families, two of which were new to the pantry. We are pleased to have been able to serve 176 people today. With laughter and joy we responded to God’s call to serve our fellow man and had a real good time.

What’s happening in Barhamsville?

Having grown up in Barhamsville and lived here most of my life, I amazed by the things that are now happening locally. Proclaiming Grace Outreach is all about partnering with other non-profits, civic groups, churches, and local businesses as well as every day ordinary residents just trying to make a go of it in life. Today I had the pleasure of visiting Auctions by Wallace’s warehouse just behind the storage units and sound shop in Barhamsville. Some of you may know that they have been having weekly estate auctions on Thursdays. This week they will be having a gun and coin auction. However, they will also be auctioning off lots of other goodies as well at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. It’s pretty exciting to have this going on so close by. Another awesome thing occurring this weekend is the grand opening of both Pumpkinville (Toano) and Holly Fork Pumpkin Patch (Barhamsville). Each offer homegrown pumpkins, gourds and lots of other unique items for your fall decorating needs as well as will be having all kinds of fun events for families. Check them both out on Facebook. Of course the place to be for all the other good Halloween/Fall deals this weekend is The Thrift Spot. Hope to see you there Saturday 8 to 4!
